Restore testing
A repeatable procedure for proving your backups can actually be recovered.
A practical physical recovery test
- Create a physical base backup.
- Confirm WAL archiving is configured.
- Generate test data changes after the backup.
- Confirm the relevant WAL has been archived.
- Select a recovery timestamp.
- Run
restore plan. - Execute the Docker restore.
- Verify the recovered data against the expected state.
For logical backups, restore into a separate registered target and compare the schema and data.
