Restore a physical backup

Recover a physical base backup into an isolated Docker PostgreSQL container.

$acrynite restore run \
$ --backup-id <backup-id> \
$ --target docker

What the workflow does

  1. Downloads the base backup and associated WAL archive into a local recovery directory.
  2. Prepares PostgreSQL recovery configuration, including recovery.signal.
  3. Starts an isolated Docker PostgreSQL container.
  4. Replays WAL to the requested recovery point, where one is specified.

The workflow does not overwrite the source cluster, and it does not publish a port unless requested.

Optional container settings

--container-name <name>
--publish-port 55432

Published ports bind to 127.0.0.1:<port>, not a public interface. Acrynite selects a postgres:<major> image when the source PostgreSQL version is known.

Docker must be running

PostgreSQL may stop recovery if required WAL segments are missing or the timeline is incompatible. A running container is not, on its own, proof of a successful application-level recovery.
