What is Acrynite?

Acrynite is a command-line tool for backing up and recovering PostgreSQL databases.

Acrynite is a command-line tool for backing up and recovering PostgreSQL databases. It supports logical and physical backups, configurable backup destinations, recurring backup schedules, and write-ahead log (WAL) archiving for point-in-time recovery workflows.

Acrynite keeps database and storage profiles in its local configuration and catalog. Each backup run receives a unique backup ID and a manifest describing the operation and its artifact. The goal is a consistent CLI that helps developers and infrastructure teams manage database backup and recovery without unnecessary complexity.

What you can do with Acrynite

  • Register PostgreSQL database profiles.
  • Register Amazon S3 and S3-compatible backup destinations.
  • Run logical or physical backups.
  • Review backup history and manifests.
  • Schedule recurring backups.
  • Configure WAL archiving.
  • Inspect known recovery points.
  • Plan and execute restores.
  • Test physical recovery in an isolated Docker container.

A backup is only useful if it restores

A completed backup and a verified restore are different things. Regular restore testing should be part of every database backup strategy. See restore testing for a practical procedure.

What Acrynite is not

Acrynite is a CLI that runs in your own environment. It is not a hosted service, it does not continuously monitor your databases, and it does not automatically recover them. You decide when backups and restores run, and you remain responsible for credentials, storage access and testing.
