Backup IDs and manifests
Every backup run gets a unique ID and a manifest stored beside its artifact.
Every backup run receives a unique backup ID, for example:
bkp_20261023_030000_a1b2
What a manifest records
A manifest is stored beside each backup artifact. It records information such as:
- Backup type and status.
- Start and completion timestamps.
- Artifact size.
- The actual destination.
- PostgreSQL version and cluster ID when available.
- The associated WAL destination for physical backups.
Failed runs are also catalogued, with their error information.
A manifest describes, it does not prove
The manifest describes the backup operation. It does not prove that the backup is restorable. Confirm restorability with a restore test.
